Time : Late February 1990
Phone: Ring, ring, ring,………
George: “Hello.”
Al: “George?”
George: “Yeah, this is George.”
Al: “This is Al Accardo, how are you?”
George: “Hey Al, I’m doin’ good, how ‘bout yourself?”
Al: “Things are good, real good. Listen…For weeks, I keep hearing God tell me that you and I are supposed to be doing music together. You’re writing songs, I’m writing songs, we both play instruments and sing. What do you think about the idea?”
George: “It sounds great, but I gotta pray on it and wait for an answer. It might take a few weeks…”
Al: “That sounds good, take as long as you need and give me a call.”
George: “You got it, and thanks for thinkin’ of me.”
Al: “No problem, I’m telling’ you, God’s really placed it on my heart that we should do this.”
George: “I like it, I just gotta pray on it a bit.”
Al: “Okay, I’ll be waiting for your call.”
ABOUT THREE WEEKS LATER
George: “Al, this is George Cooper.”
Al: “Hey George, it’s good to hear from you.”
George: “Al, I’ve done my prayin’ and I believe you’re right…God does want us to do music together. But I got two more answers to my prayer. We’re supposed to put our families first and we are to plan absolutely nothing and just let God take the lead.”
Al: “Yeah, that sounds like something He’d say. When do you want to get together?”.........
And now you know how the Christian musical group, Servants of The Shepherd began. A couple of phone calls, some time in prayer, two men committed to a journey with God in charge of the outcome. It’s the beginning of a musical story that only God could write. It’s a ministry that He continues to bless until this very day.
